Ruby - Metaprogramming and Tutorials
I caught/am catching Josh Staigler’s series (that’s the third part, the prior two parts are linked in the first paragraph) on some Ruby hackin’ and metaprogrammin’, and would just like to recommend it to anybody interested. Neither of us is a guru like why or Mauricio, but it’ll be a neat intro for any curious newbies (the best kind of newbie). In the same spirit...

Use this number to break into luxury cars
An article at everything2 gives away the long code needed to guarantee entry into one of those luxury cars that has the buttons on the door. Maybe some of these cars time you out after a few failed attempts, but really I’ve never been a luxury car aficionado so you won’t get a definitive answer either way here.

Slack Week
The week between Christmas and New Year’s is always pretty slack. I’ll probably drive across the state for a couple days in Tampa before the graduation party over in Satellite Beach, but until then I’ll probably read some book, help a friend of mine move across town (out of his parents’ house, and maybe work a bit on a Ruby HTTP library that lets me write less code than...

USB Wiimote Sensor Bar
After messing around with Darwiin Remote for a week or two, I decided I was done messing with crummy relative movement (tilt back for up, forwards for down, keep perfectly level for standing still), so I conned my little brother into helping me make a rig of USB-powered infrared LEDs for my iBook. Starting with two IR LEDs from Radio Shack, some anonymous red LED ripped from an old computer case...

Finished
It’s over – I’ve finally graduated from college with my BS in CS, and I’ve got basically no obligations for the three weeks before I start working. It’s going to be nice relaxing for the Christmas break. I plan on reading books, hanging out with friends (I’ve been notified that there might be a D&D game at some point) for the break, and generally having a...

Rulin' It Up
Friday was awesome - we ruled it up at UCSB iCTF 2006, taking 3rd place (best American team), with $10 million in pillaged bank money. Final Results It was a pretty interesting competition - unlike the more traditional game we saw last year and last summer in Cipher2, it was based around running online banking services while making sure the software architecture kept is secure. My biggest...

Relief
Got Monday’s advanced discrete test back with a 90 today, which means that it’s relatively easy for me to get a B in the class for the semester. Also slammed through the last regular Human Geography test today (although the lack of an essay was disappointing), and almost presented the senior project (but ran out of between-class time). UCSB CTF is Friday (I’ve had a dashbaord...

A Poem
If my plaintext has a remainder then I don’t need that stumper, The concept of BCH codes can take it in the dumper. (apologies to Achewood (warning, swears))
